This pencil study follows the islimi (arabesque) style found in 15th- to 17th-century Persian and Ottoman manuscripts and tilework. A 16-point rosette sits at the centre, while mirrored vine scrolls, palmettes and budding flowers spread across the square like an endless carpet. The faint grid and compass marks show the strict geometric planning that underlies classical Islamic ornament, where every curve is measured yet the overall effect feels organic and continuous.
